A Board Verification Certificate is a document issued by your school board confirming that the mark sheet you are submitting is genuine. DGCA requires one from every NEW Flight Crew candidate before registration, for Indian and foreign candidates alike. It is one of the most common reasons a computer number application stalls, because candidates discover it late.
Who needs one, and who does not
DGCA divides applicants into two groups, and the answer is different for each.

Which documents it covers
The certificate applies to your 10th, 10+2, 10+2-equivalent or Diploma mark sheets, as applicable to the qualification you are registering with. Which of those you need follows from your licence category: a Private Pilot Licence candidate registers on a Class Ten pass, a Commercial Pilot Licence candidate on 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics.
Two situations that need a different certificate
A Board Verification Certificate is not the only verification DGCA may want.
- Qualifications from outside the Indian board system. If your 10th, 10+2 or equivalent came from an international school, board or university — whether that institution sits in India or abroad — you need an equivalency certificate from the Association of Indian Universities, AIU House, 16 Kotla Marg, New Delhi 110022.
- Diploma holders. A 10+2 equivalency certificate is required from the relevant state Directorate of Technical Education, or from a recognised institution or university.
Where it sits in the process
The sequencing matters, because two DGCA rules combine badly if you get it wrong.
- Obtain the Board Verification Certificate from your board before you begin registration.
- Register on the Pariksha portal and activate the emailed link within 24 hours.
- Complete the application and upload documents — PDF only for documents; JPEG is used only for the photograph and signature.
- Final Submit. Nothing can be uploaded after this point.
- Post the printed form with attached documents to the Central Examination Organization.
Those two rules together — mandatory before registration, and no uploads after Final Submit — mean a missing certificate is not a gap you fill in later. It is a rejection you correct and resubmit. Boards do not always issue these quickly, so start this first, not last.
How to obtain one
The issuing authority is your own board or university, and the process differs between them: CBSE, ICSE, a state board and a foreign board each handle verification their own way, with their own form, fee and turnaround.

Contact the board that issued the mark sheet, ask specifically for a certificate verifying the authenticity of that mark sheet, and ask how long it takes — then plan your registration around that answer rather than around a figure from a blog.
